The Community Health Needs Assessment: An FSPH Consulting Group Case Study is an original case study researched and written to ground students in the real-world intersection of tax law, nonprofit hospital obligations, and community health by using UCLA's own backyard as the classroom. To complement the case study, students read Ronald Reagan UCLA Health's actual community health needs assessment and are tasked with consulting with an interprofessional task force charged with proposing collaborative initiatives with community-based organizations to deliver a measurable public benefit. The case also engages students with the Governor's budget priorities, connecting institutional practice to the broader policy landscape. Designed as the foundation for a core course assignment, the case challenges students to think across disciplines—bringing together tax law, nonprofit governance, community health needs assessment, interprofessional collaboration, strategy, community-engagement and partnership development in a single, place-based learning experience.
